Better to have 2 female cats or 1 male and 1 female

is it better to have 2 females, or one male and one female in a house hold.

Answer from Kate
Hi
It is best to have one of each rather than two females or two males. Females are generally worse at getting along with another female cat.

Unless the cats have grown up together from birth as a general rule if you can get one of each sex as this will general mean a happier less territorial home.

I have a page about introducing new cats to each other which you may find of further interest here

my cat has found a friend

Hi I have a female cat who lives outdoors, she has safe and warm outdoor shelter, is well fed and happy. Lately she has been accompanied by another cat at feeding times, I'm not sure if it is feral but she has definitely befriended it. Of course I am giving her mate some food, can't leave them out :-) Just wondering whether her friend is a male or female? My cat has been spayed so I've no worry about kittens, I'm just curious.
