What does it mean when my calico cat has been sneezing and has a runny, stuffy nose?

Hi
well they may just have a normal cold which is nothing to worry about and will clear up by itself.

however there are other possible causes too from the more serious cat flu

Or from an allergic reaction to something

If the symptoms continue for more than three or four days or seem to be getting worse then it would be best to check with your vet.

It's been going on for a year or so.
My cat that died had the same thing but
longer.
