Cat bites when playing

by David

I have just acquired a cat of around a year old.

Most of the time she's very affectionate, but sometimes will go a bit 'wild'
leaping at me and trying to bite and scratch as if she's trying to catch
sometning. Is this normal for a cat of this age?

Answer from Kate
Sounds to me like she is playing but unfortunately has not learned how to play with humans properly. her actions are that of a the hunt game.

Unfortunately some owners play with their new kittens using their hands etc and the cat then thinks this is Ok and does not realize that they should not bite etc.

You will need to start to use some training methods on her so that this behavior stops. It can become a problem later on especially if children are involved etc.

the method for training a cat what is right or wrong is described here on this page

best wishes Kate
