cat chewing off her fur

by Lindsey

My cat is about 14 years old, she has recently (after our new dog moved in) been shewing her fur off her back side her whole left side, and her tail I have treated her for fleas but that was not the problem, any ideas on what I can do. She is my baby and I hate to see her suffer. Please help.

Hi, sounds like a stress thing to me. Some cats will over groom when they are stressed by something, perhaps the arrival of the dog has triggered this off. It may be that your vet can prescribe a calming medication for a awhile until your c at is more used to the dog bein g around. It may also be a good idea to take the cat to the vet any way as they can take a look at the skin to make sure their are no other causes such as mites or a skin allergy.
