Cat Dandruff Problem

My cat Bootsie is a 4 year old male who has been fixed. He all of a sudden has some dandruff. It's on his back. I know foods have a lot to do with keeping their coat nice. I feed his Iams and once a day 1 canned food as a treat. I know it can be if the house is dry due to heat, but I am on the 3rd fl. and I didn't use my heat all the time. Is there any kind of lotion I can use? There is no way he can be given a bath. He will not let that happen and that will be a fight. Cats don't need a bath unless they have been outside for a long time , like rescueing a cat and they have fleas etc..and are real dirty(my opinion anyway). I do brush Bootsie which helps with the dandruff, any ideas you can give me would be great!!

Thank you,

Hi
there are several reasons for this to happen from allergic reactions to mites. See this page for more on this here

Ideally the cat should be checked out by a vet to see if there are any obvious causes for the flaky skin.

best wishes Kate
