our cat, who had 3 legs when we adopted him (one hind leg missing)has been getting poop clumped on his tail and dragging it around the house. I'm not sure what to do about it. I'm thinking new litter or a different litter box, but we have two other non disabled cats and our apartment is very small (right now the litter boxes are in the dining room). any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,
Liza

Hi
sadly sometimes it can be difficult for a cat to clean himself properly when they have a leg missing. It may also suggest that he has some bowel weakness if he is not able to expel the feces completely. Unfortunately when there is a disability like this they do have these problems and the only thing we can do is to help them out by cleaning them up.

If this is a recent problem you could check with the vet in case their is a new bowel problem which is making it difficult fro him to pass his stools i.e like constipation

I'm not sure if a different litter would make much difference unless he doesn't like the existing one and is leaving the litter tray before he is finished. You could experiment with a different type to see if that has any benefits.

he is certainly a very handsome chap from his photo.

best wishes Kate
