Cat Feces and Urine problems

Dear Kate,

Thank you so much for taking my question! My cat recently has started to use my landlord's carpeted hallway to urinate and defecate on! The litter box was clean, and she's just 6 yrs. old. I do go in and out of the apartment alot, but I try to spend time with her. Now the hallway smells like cat urine. How can I break her of this habit?

Thank you Kate!

Ok you will need to do two things, first you will have to give her a period of confinement litter training. this helps to re establish her litter habit and will also help her with any possible stress related issue which may be associated with the problem in the first place. please see this page for more information on this

Secondly you will need to thoroughly clean the hallway so that no traces of the urine and smells remain. Even the tiniest speck can encourage a a cat to use the area again. A black light helps to see any remaining spots. I have a web page about cat urine cleaners for your information here

best wishes kate
