cat focused aggression

by Luke Bosshard
(Rio de JAneiro, Brazil)

hi,

my name is Luke Bosshard and i live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
my (female 5y)cat seems to HATE our maid. by the time she rings the bell the cat is already hissing like crazy, we have to lock it up in a bedroom so the maid can work, and it stays stressed through the whole day and the following day too (the maid comes once a week).

what ca i do about this? the cat is becoming more aggressive every week.

Well there must be something about the maid that the cat is afraid of and is acting aggressively because of it.

Sometimes certain smells can make a cat behave this way and the maid may be wearing a certain perfume or her cleaning materials may be affecting the cat.

the only thing you can do is either to always keep the cat locked away during these visits, or you could ask your maid not to wear any perfume or use any strong scents while she is in the house and for her to try a few minutes of bonding with the cat every week under your supervision.

Bonding has to be done on the cats terms, I have a web page about how to go about it here

best wishes Kate
