Cat in heat or infection?

my kitten is between 5-6 months old and not spayed. yesterday I noticed she had some yellow crusties stuck around her vaginal region.. she's been licking it more than usual as well and has been meowing a lot at night but has not been putting her hind quarters in the air.. other than that she has no other symptoms.does this sound like she's going into heat or a possible infection?

Well unfortunately it could be either and is impossible to say for sure which. yes at her age she will be moving into her adult hood and heat periods but it may be a little early so i am wondering if she may have some sort of infection.

The only way to know for sure is to have her checked out by the vet. If the symptoms remain for another day or so or if new symptoms appear then a trip to the vets would be your bets option. he can also talk you through the spay process if that is what you are going to do for her.
