Cat is eating all the time after death of older cat

by Brenda
(Canada)

I have two cats, one just passed away, she was 15 and the other cat is about 9 years old. The two cats never got along, and at feeding time the older cat always dominated by going to whichever dish the younger cat was at and making her move to the other one. Since the older one has died, the other one eats non-stop. Is this because she isn't afraid to eat anymore, or is she grieving in some way even though she never got along with the other cat?

I would think it is becasue she now has the new found freedom and is not afraid anymore to eat, it also be because she may think the other cat is comeing back and wnats to eat as much as possible before then. Don't worry as time passes the cat will realise that their is no urgency to eat and will settle down.
I am sorry to hear of your loss.
best wishes
