Hi
There is definitely something wrong here. he may have a bad too or mouth abscess. sometimes it can be difficult to see. I would definitely recommend that you take him to see a vet as soon as possible. they will be better able to check his mouth and throat as they may have seen this before.

i hope he is better soon

cat foaming at the mouth
by: Anonymous

I have had a kitten doing this found out it was frm it eating and breathing in clay kitty litter every time i put water in his mouth it frothed up and his poo was white clay. So this could be another reason for a cat to froth at the mouth. Better to use recycled papper palets i say and eco frendly! Also aparently the odd cat has an obsession with eating soap or clay litter! No matter what it is dont muck around race him to the vet he may need fluids or close cear or it may even be something more toxic hes eaten.

The cat has a throat infection - as he was trying to swallow he was stopping himself by spitting back out!

couple of injections and a week on anti biotics did the trick

Wash your hands, where work gloves and a heavy shirt when you transport your cat in a secure carrier.
I may be overreacting, but it's always better to be on the safe side with something like this.
