Cat is gagging

Yesterday my cat starting gagging. Nothing is coming out. Today he has no voice. Should I take him to the vet?

he may have a hairball.

If he continues to do this and does not produce anything than yes you will need to take him to the vets as he may have something else like a bone caught in there.
