Cat keeps running away.

Our indoor cat keeps running away! He always comes back within half an hour, but I'm afraid of him bringing germs and disease into the house. Next time he comes back I'm going to treat him for fleas and worms, but he hasn't been protected before because he's always stayed indoors. Why is he running away and how can I get him to stay inside?

I'm sorry but i don't believe cats should bekept indoors all the time they are essentially wild animals that choose to live with us but they don't really belong to us, just like our children don't belong to us. Now i know you may not agree but i had to say that as i belive that is why he is wanting to go out side, he has natural instincts. He is not running away because he comes back. I'm not sure what germs you are talking about, we all encouter germs when we go outside, no more than your cat. If you are talking abot fleas well as long as you treat your cat every month with vet prescribed flea killer, then fleas will not live on them. Please read my pages here on the site about fleas and worms, it will help you know how easy it is to protect your cat from them.
I wouldn't worry too much as your cat is obviously very happy as they come back home every time.
