i have five cats and in december one of my male cats got uti and we treated him and he still eats his special diet, Prescription diet C/D, he eats separetly from the other four as well so im not sure if it is him or not but my fiancee found a box this morning with dry pee in it and it also had a white residue, i touched the residue and it kinda disintigrated with the heat of my body, first off is this proboably crytals?? and i have five cats do u know of any way to collect urine from the them?? and can my male cat that had uti in dec still have probs even though hes on his special diet?? im soo concerned i dont know who did it i only have one other male how often do females get crystals?? any help is greatly appreciated!
Do all of your cats drink plenty of water or do they eat only wet food? I ask as male cats are more at risk from uti's etc and if there is not enough fluid in their diet can easily have these problems.
Female cats can of also get uti's and crystals too but are less prone to it.
The best ways to get a urine sample is to buy a kit from your vets which consists of some special litter which is reusable and allows your cat to use a separate litter tray with this litter. The urine can then be sucked up using a pipette included in the kit. I have had to do this recently for my cats.
It is worth following this up especially as you have had a cat who has had a uti before. They may be a cat who is prone to these sorts of problems.
Hope it is sorted out soon
best wishes kate
