Cat Poop

Mizz Sheba

Mizz Sheba

Sorry to be crude in the title but....I recently went on a weekend visit out of town. I've done this before and left my 2 year old female cat, Sheba, at home without incident. However, this latest time, when I came back I found Sheba had pooped right next to her litter box (twice). I thought maybe she was doing this as a punishment for me being gone but the past two weeks since I've returned, she's done this a total of 3 different times. I can't figure it out...her litter box is cleaned out everyday (sometimes twice a day). I've sprayed perfume in the spot where she does it, thinking that will deter the scent but I'm out of ideas, as I was left a present today when I got home from work. HELP!!! If I wanted poop on my floor I would've gotten a dog LOL!

Hi
It sounds to me like she for what ever reason this time felt insecure while you were away. this can happen as cats gets older sometimes.

the behavior is called Middening and is her attack at making the home smell more like her which help her to feel more settled in her home.

Now it may have become a little bit of a habit as well.

You will need to take her through a period of litter training again using the confinement method to help her break the habit and also help her to feel relaxed again.

Please see my page about this issue, it also has the litter training process on it here

best wishes Kate
