cat pooping on beds

by Holly
(Idaho)

I have a one year old kitten who, about a week ago, started to poop on my bed, my daughters bed, and if we shut the doors to the bedrooms, the bath tub... She is still using her litter box but once a day she poops in those 3 different places...last night my husband woke up because he rolled in a new pile that was right beside him in bed...she has had kittens about a month ago...we have started new jobs so we are gone for a few hours everyday...which is new to her because usually there was one of us here during the day... She knows what she is doing is wrong because she runs and hides once we find the mess...I do not know what to do about her... I am sick of her doing that but I do not want to leave her outside because she is not fixed and her kittens are still nursing..how do I get this behavior to stop and what is the cause of it?

hi
this sort of behavior occurs when the cat feels anxious about something, it is not something they do because they want to be naughty, it is designed to help them feel more comfortable in their home. The issue is called Middening and i have a page with some more information about it and also how you can help your cat get over this period. here is the page
