Cat sprays and poops wherever

Hi

I have 2 cats. mother and son.Cramer the mother is about 10 or 11. She has been spraying for a few years and I usually tried to keep her outside but now I moved into an apt on the 2nd floor she uses the apt like a litter box and will poop and pee wherever she wants. She is a scardey cat and hisses at the other cat or the dog.

I have one litter box in bathroom that the other cat will use. I don't know what to do with her cause I have a 1yr old walking around now. I am considering getting rid of her cause. I put her outside but she keeps coming back in or I have to lock her in the bathroom. Is it time to find her a new home?

you have not mentioned if she is spayed or not. If not then having her done will help the problem.

However if she is a particularly nervous cat, one which really does not want to live with other animals and feels the need to scent mark every where then yes it may be better to find her a home where she will be the only pet.

cats scent mark for several reasons, one to mark territory the other to help them feel secure inj their own home. So there could be things happening around the house which is making her feel worried or insecure, this could be the other animals, it could be your anxiety about the situation, it may even be your 1 year old making her nervous.

You could try giving her a period of litter re training to see if that helps, but if her home life is not really suited to her temperament then the kindest thing may be to find her a new home.
