cats hiising after mouse caught

my cat got out today and brought home a shrew type mouse and when he was outside the door, the other cats started hissing and growling towards the cat that they've lived with for years... what happened?

This sort of behavior is caused by fear. It could simply be that the other cats are fearful of the mouse type thing , perhaps they have never seen one before.

Things should calm sown soon.
