Concerned cat owner

(Cincinnati)

I got a 12 week old kitten from a good shelter about a week ago and he now has anal leakage. He is eating and drinking well, but this just starting this evening. His stool has been soft since the second day and I thought it was because the new surroundings and new food, but now I'm getting concerned. Can you let me know what to do?

Thanks, Lynn in Cincinnati, OH

Hi well he could still be getting used to his new food and home etc. it can sometimes take a little longer than a week to settle down.

he may need time for his digestive system to settle down and so you could try feeding him less more blander food for a day or so. Please see my page about this here for more information

If however things do not settle down in another few days then i would recommend a trip to the vets just to rule out any underling infections etc. Even good cat breeders and cat shelters can be prone to infections sometimes.

i hope is all well again in a day or so.

best wishes Kate
