Do I seperate the pregnant female cat from the male?

I have a pregnant female cat and the male cat is trying to mate with her again. should I keep them apart? or is this normal and no problem?

Answer by Kate

Female cats are quite unique in the fact that they can become pregnant over and over again at once and this is why litters are born with lots of different looking kittens with different fathers. So the fact that the male cat is still trying to mate with her is not unusual. However this should not continue for long and the female cat will soon tell the male cat to back off.

I wouldn't worry too much. if however the male cat continues through out her pregnancy to pester her, then you may want to give her a break from him for a while. but I'm sure this won't be necessary.

best wishes Kate
