do queens get sad

Does a mother cat get sad when her kittens are given away? My cat has two kittens and I am ready to place them, they are 9 weeks old. Will she be sad or look for them?

Hi this is still a little early for you to be removing the kittens from their mother. it is normally reacommended to wait until after 12 weeks and that they are fully weaned as well.

After this time the queen would normally in the wild be encouraging her kittens to find their own territory so, although she may miss them being around at first, she will get over it as it is a natural and normal process. It is also a good idea to have the female cat spayed so that this does not keep on happening to her, it is not healthy for a cat to have too many litters and the upheaval of it all can cause behavioural issues over time.

best wishes kate
