Going on a trip and leaving my cat

When we go on a trip and leave Kiwi, our cat, home alone, we always have a neighbor stop in once a day to check up on her. The question is: Should we call home and talk to Kiwi on our answering machine. Kiwi would hear our voices as we spoke. This might comfort her, or confuse her. What do you think?

umm well i think it would probably confuse her and possibly even spook her out. her understanding of why she can hear you but not see you is out of her range.

As long as your neighbor visits her once a day and spends a few minutes with her and she is being fed and cared for then she should be fine. Perhaps leave some of your old worn clothes around so that your smell is still about this may help to comfort her too.

Make sure her home environment is as stimulating as possible so that she does not get bored or frustrated. i have a page here which you may find of interest
