Grieving Cat

If you have more then one cat do they grieve when one of the other cats die? Do they have a grieving period just like humans?

Answer by Kate
Personally i think they do miss the other cat and i always advise people not to rush out and try and replace the cat becasue they think that it will help the remaining cat. in fact it's good to give them time to grieve.

I lost my beloved 15yr old cat yesterday, she had kidney desease. I held her at the vets, she passed with my husband and I telling her quietly thankyou for all your love.It was beautiful. We have Sarah our 16yr old cat, we are patting her, talkin to her and hopefully she will get over her grief in time. I'm glad we have sites like yours, great advice and spot on. We will get a black puppy lab for a mate for her in a couple of mths.sarah had 9 happy years with our o Shilo, who passed too soon. And when Sarah passes, I ill have a mate to get me through, when it happens. Thanks Awhina.
