Heat after spaying

I rescued a cat named Toby. She is 4-6 year old Tuxedo. She is normally lovely. When we rescued her and took her to the vet, we found out she was pregnant. She had 5 kittens, we rehoused 4. I got her spayed at the appropriate time, kept her away from the boys while she was healing.

She recently has started going into heat frequently. I have two boys, Tokie (who is 1 and a half year old mutt, and neutered was before Toby joined us) and Kilgor (her last born, longhaired mutt, almost a year, also neutered at the right time). Both of the boys have started to mount her.

I am more so concerned about her health. I thought cats stopped heat cycles after being spayed. Should I be concerned she is going into heat again? And is it odd the neutered boys are mounting her?

Thank you for your time,
Sarah

answer from Kate

Hi
cats do not go into heat once they are spayed. However it can take a few weeks or so for the hormone levels to drop after the operation so if her op was recent it could be that she still smells slightly of being in heat.

As for males still mounting after being neutered well this is rare also but it is often instinct which sometimes kicks in rather than any real need.

I would say that this behavior should subside but perhaps it may be a good idea to separate the female from the males for another week or so.

best wishes kate
