How can I tell if my cat is in pain

I have a male tabby cat approx 13 to 14 years old. He has a a rough sound when hes breathing and he makes short sharp breaths. also how do you tell when a cat is in pain?

Hi
It sounds like your cat may have a respiratory infection. Your best option is to take your cat to see a vet as soon as you can.

It can't be pleasant for your cat if he is having difficultly breathing.
