Is my cat sick she is licking a lot

by Kari
(Oklahoma City)

I woke up this morning to notice that my cat is incessantly licking her tail near her anus. When I go to pet her she wont let me touch her and she starts to whine and growl. Then she will immediatly reach for her tail and start licking again. Once she starts to stand up she will freak out on herself and sit back down and start licking again. I am afraid that she might be sick or there is something wrong with her. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

Hi
yes it could be that she has a parasite problem back there. often the base of the tail is an area where they congregate.

However there are other possibilities such as allergy, an insect bite or even general anxiety.

Of course your best option is to have the vet take a look in case there is some irritant there.

best wishes Kate
