Kitten taking dry food out of dish

We rescued our kitten 6 weeks ago from a local shelter she has been great for the last 6 weeks . All of a sudden a couple of days ago she has started taking her (dry) food out of her dish and on the floor we play with it and then eat some. can you explain why she is doing this?

I have seen this done many times. In fact all of my cats have done this from time to time. I have never really put much thought into it.

I don't think there can really be one particular answer as to why they do this. Personally i think it is just a bit of fun, similar to how kids will play with their food I guess.
