Litter Training

Hi there, I have a 7 week old kitten and I have just brought him home. The owner said he was litter trained which he is, he can go to the litter tray no problem. But recently he went for a poo and straight afterwards came straight out of the litter tray and wiped his bum along the floor.

IS there any way I can prevent him from doing this?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Sarah

This behavior suggests that he may have some problem with his rear end. normally when cats do this they some irritation or problem. Check the area and make sure it is always clean. He is rather young and I don't think he should have left his mother just yet as she would normally keep his back end clean and also he would learn toilet habits from her. You may have to be mum for a few weeks.

If the problem persists it may be an idea to get him checked by a vet, you will probably be taking him to a vet soon anyway for his first checkups and vaccinations etc.

Lets hope it is nothing and just a habit he will grow out of.

best wishes Kate

When dogs or cats do this i have been told it is because they have worms which are crawling in their anus and causing it to tickle. ewww ick. Get him worm treated right away.
