male cat pooping in house

My 17 year old cat starting pooping in my daughters room, no matter how long he is out in the garage where the litter box is located. He was always a good cat and didn't cause problems but he sneaks in there not matter what.

Answer from KAte
Hi
This sort of behavior is called Middening and is a behavioral issue caused by some distress or anxiety. The reason your daughters room is being chosen is probably because this is where the cat feel most safe ie surrounded by the familiar smell of or your daughter.

the cause of the anxiety etc could be caused by either the fact the cat feels ill in some way (at 17 this is always a possibility) or something has upset the cat within the home or outside. Please see my page about this issue and some of the possible causes.

It may be a good idea to have your cats general health checked by a vet first to rule out any possible underlying illness.

i hope he is back to his old self soon

best wishes Kate
