Mother Cat Spotting

by Bobbie
(Portland, Me)

Mother cat gave birth to kittens 2 days ago- 5 alive and 1 dead. It felt like she still had one in her- I waited 24 hours- nothing. I thought maybe it was just her organs and stuff going back into place. She has been attentive to her kitten for the past two days.--- but this morning I noticed she was spotting blood from her vagina.(I found an pencil eraser size on my sheet) I don't know if this is normal. I am worried she may have retained a plecenta-

Hi
Well it is normal for the occassional spot of blood to appear after birth for a few days after wards and hopefully thats all it was.

however you seem to have some concerns about something being wrong. Now I always say that the owner of a cat is the best person to judge if something could be wrong. it may be nothing but if you do have any worries at all, a quick trip to the vets to have her checked over can not hurt. At least that way you will know all is well or not and your cat will be looked after appropriately.

I hope is all is well

best wishes Kate
