my 12 year old cat is peeing everywhere

hi my female cat keeps shitting and peeing on my sofa plus she pees when trying to sit on ur lap do i need take her to vets

There are two possibilities for the cause of this behavior. either she is ill and is unable to control her bowels or bladder or it is behavioral and she is using this as a scent marker.

It is not unusual for cats to scent mark their owners too as they want to make sure that other cats know you belong to them. But it is not that common and could be a sign that your cat feels very insecure and so needing to scent mark everything.
