My 4 month old cat doesn't like being outside

by Carol

We purchased our cat from the abandoned pet home at 8 weeks old. The council had picked him up on the street as he had been dumped. We kept him inside up until 4 weeks ago. Now he will not stay outside, keeps trying to get inside again.

Hi
I wouldn't worry too much. My sister had a cat who was found on the street when he was a kitten and he never wanted o go out again. he spent his life as an inside cat and was happy to do do.

My sisters cat had suffered with cat flu which had affected his eye sight so this may have been a reason for his reluctance to go outside.

i don't know if the cat has been checked by a vet for any possible eye defects etc it may be worth checking into.

other wise it may simply be that your cat needs longer to get used to the fact that he has a permanent home that will always be there for him. perhaps a cat flap will give him reassurance that he can come and go when he wants to and is never shut out of his home.

best wishes kate
