My cat has stopped using her litter box

My tabby cat is about six years old. She is an indoor cat. She all of a sudden within the last month, has stopped using her litter box. She will still urinate in her box, but will have her bowel movement elsewhere (in a corner, behind a chair or under the Christmas tree! ) I bought her a covered litter pan, but that was not the answer . Do you have any ideas to help.

#Hi this may be behavioral. If it is she is Middening ie scent marking her territory. It is a complex issue and one that i have outline in more detail on my page about this issue here
