my cat is losing fur

by Scahde04

Help! Our beloved 2 year old neutered siamese is losing his hair! The vet said his temp was high, thought he saw flea droppings (no fleas!) and gave him a shot of cortizone(?)for allergies and some advantage just in case. It's gotten worse since then! His hair is missing off his back, neck, inner legs...He looks awful The good news is that he isn't acting any different. What should we do? Find a new vet? Help!

Hi well he could well have an allergy to flea bites which is not uncommon. My old cat had it. Even though we help her flea free if one jumped on her from outside etc and bit her then she would scratch and scratch like mad until her fur rubbed off etc. Our vet gave her a antihistamine injection and this seemed to help her immune system cope with future bites too.

It may take a little while for the itching to stop and then for the fur to grow back so give it a few more days to see if things ease before taking her back to the vets.

I have a page about cat allergies and also one about cat fur loss which you may find of further information here
