My cat keeps peeing on top of its litter box lid!!

Please help my cat has a litter box house with a filter in the lid and recently every morning when we come downstairs we notice she has not weed in the litter box but all over the filter. We have tried picking her up and rubbing her nose in it, replacing the filter, cleaning the top with lemon wipes. At first we just thought she wanted her litter changed but we changed it yesterday and now this morning the same has happened, any ideas what we can do because these filters are very expensive!!

All I can assume is that the smell of the filters is either upsetting her and so she is trying to cover its smell with hers or she really likes the smell and it is attracting her to it.

if I were you i would remove the lid off of the litter tray for a few days and see if she reverts to just using the litter tray (this period may break the habit), if not then she may have other issues. Please see this page for more on this
