my kitten is acting a bit strange?

my kitten is about 4/5 months old(i dont know for certain as i adopted her from a local animal shelter)

and recently shes been purring/meowing alot, rubbing herself on the carpet and walking crouched down.
i also noticed that she seems to be wet round her back passage.
she is booked in to be spayed, and hasnt been out of the house very much since we got her(on account of her not being spayed etc)
i just wondered if was something serious, and if i should be worried?
or just that shes coming into maturity?

well yes it does sound like it has something to do with her maturing and perhaps she is having her first session of being in heat.

I don't know how soon your appointment is for her spay but if it is soon then perhaps wait as long as she seems happy in herself and is still eating and using the litter as normal. if not then an earlier appointment should be made.
