New litter boxes leads to pee outside box and tracking litter everywhere
by Dennis

I bought two litter boxes that have higher walls and come with tops that have swinging doors. I thought this would solve Charlie's problem of standing while peeing and his stream shooting over the box and onto the floor. I think it's working but Gracie is now peeing in front of the boxes,so now Charlie is getting his paws wet and the litter sticks to them and litter is being carried all over the house. I keep the litter boxes clean, what can I do about Gracie's problem?

Hi i would give Gracie a few days alone with the litter trays to get used to them in her own time. She may just need some more time to get used to them on her own.
I would take her through the litter retaining process described on this page and perhaps take the door off of her tray while she is in the room, then when she gets used to it to try the door again. I had a cat who would not use these boxes unless the door was removed.
