my cat has suddenly become very inactive, he usually likes to be out most of the day, plays with our dog and harrasses our other cat but the past few days he just sits in a couple of places and sleeps. eating a little but not his usually playful self. any idea why

Hi
He may have picked up a virus like we all do from time to time which has made him feel a little under the weather. usually these things clear up on their own after a few days perhaps 3 or 4.

If however he remains the same after this time then a trip to your vets is a good idea for further investigation. It is impossible without an examination to say what could be wrong otherwise.

Lest hope it is just a passing virus and that he is back to his old self soon. Make sure he is allowed to be quiet and comfortable and try to make sure that he has access to fresh water so that he does not become dehydrated if he does not eat as much as usual.

My own cats go through something similar from time to time and usually if it is just a passing cold etc clears up by itself.

best wishes kate
