Resident cat and new adopted cat

We just adopted a new kitty and this morning when i opened the door to the room that we are keeping the new kitty in my other resident cat watched him and then she threw up. Is this a common behavior upon meeting or smelling a new cat in her home? I have two female cats, one is 2 years old and the other is 1 year old. The new addition is a male and was just fixed. My girls have not had any up close contact with the male yet, in fact she was about 10 feet away when she saw hi and then threw up. This is the first time she has done so, so i'm not concerned about this being a sickness or anything like that. she also just ate a little and within 25 minutes she saw him and threw up.

Hi no this is not a common behavior and I wonder if it is just linked to her recently eating and being a little anxious about the new kitten. My advice would be to keep an eye on her and see if the vomiting continues at other times or not.

As for introducing the kitten to your other two cats may i suggest that you use the method described on this page

It does take a little time and effort but it does seem to help cats get along better in the long run.

best wishes Kate
