Residue from Scratching

My 5 year old spayed female indoor cat has suddenly started chewing/licking the fur off the back of her front legs. She doesn't seem to have any fleas and isn't scratching more than usual. But every couple of hours if I run my hand over the surface where she's been laying, I'll find a residue that is a mixture of brown and white granules - fine like sand. Any ideas??? The only change recently in her environment is two weeks ago I started using a different kind of kitty litter. I also have an 11 year old spayed femaile house cat and they grew up together. Any ideas??

Hi well it sounds like she either has an allergy to something or she does have a parasite problem. the granules could be flea eggs of flea dirts. Sometimes you don't see the fleas themselves.

the trouble is without a proper diagnosis from a vet it is impossible to treat correctly.

I do have a page about this issue here

https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-hair-loss.html

A vet will be able to take a look at the area in finer detail and will be able to give a more definite diagnosis.

best wishes Kate
