Sick Cat has scabs all over body

My cat has scabs all over his body, mostly around his neck and head area. He has also started laying around a lot more than normal and he is not eating much. His jaw starts opening and closing, kind of like it is grinding every once and a while too. I don't know what's wrong with him. I was hoping you could help. He is an indoor/outdoor cat.

Answer from Kate
sounds to me like he may have a flea or other parasite problem. the neck area is a common place for this to happen.

Sounds like your cat is in some distress. Have you taken him to see the vet yet? He will need treating for the cause and also his skin may need some medication as well as perhaps some antihistamine for itch relief for your cat.

if it is a flea or parasite problem your vet will also advise you on how to prevent this happening again as if it is fleas you will have to treat your home too.

There is lots of information about fleas and their control on this page

But you do need to take your cat to see a vet soon as his condition as advanced to the stage where by he needs proper diagnosis and treatment. A cat not eating and drinking is a urgent sign of ill health which needs investigation as soon as possible.

Hope he is better soon

best wishes Kate
