Sneezing Cat

by Fallen Angel

My cat had her 3rd litter of kittens she had 3. They were born March 31st. Two boys and a girl. The boys are strong and eating and playing all the time, the feamle not so much although she is a girl and a lot smaller than her brothers.

The mother, my baby was doing amazing. This morning I ran out of hard food and decided to go buy some wet food to hold her over until i buy more which I always do. She absolutly loves it! She eats so much and so fast I only give her half a can at a time.

Today I gave her a new flavor... it had a picture of a chicken so I figured it was good. The week before she ate whitefish and salmon and the hard food was ocean something(tuna salmon and whitefish).

Anyways, after she was done eating I picked her up and carried her into my room, I noticed her nipples were hard like a ball and swollen. Also, she has not stopped sneezing or meowing at me, shes kind of squinting too.... I did some research... I found, she may be in labor; have something stuck in her throat and/or nose, or just be getting a kitty cold. Oh yea also she may have a tick bite that is making her sick. None of these results sound right to me because she is an indoor cat and JUsT STARted this today I am worried she may be allergic to the food? Any suggestions?

Answer by Kate
Well yes to all those possibilities including an allergic reaction.

I'm not sure that the swollen nipples and sneezing are connected. Unfortunately it is impossible to say if the food has caused her problem apart from if you stop feeding her the food and see if the sneezing stops.

I would however suggest that you telephone your vets to ask if swollen hard nipples is something that needs looking into. There are certain illness like mastitus that can occur after giving birth. It may be affecting the kittens health.

It is always best to have your female cat checked over after giving birth if there are any signs of ill health.

best wishes Kate

Cat Sneezing

my cat is sneezing and eyes watering, what is wrong with her?

Answer by Kate
possible cat flu, a cold or even a allergy can cause sneezing. Only a vet could tell the difference.

If your cat has been vaccinated against cat flu then perhaps at this time of the year it could be put down to an allergy. i have given you the links to my pages about both allergies and flu for further information.

best wishes Kate

Sneezing Cat

My almost 10 year old cat has all of a sudden started sneezing (15 times in a row or more; more or less it just depends) and he seems like he's stopped up, can you help? He's still acting fine, he has been on Venison and Green Pea's Cat food for a while now and this just started maybe 2 - 3 months ago.

Answer by Kate
well as you know I am not a vet so would not like to try and give you a diagnosis. However if the cat has been doing this for some time I would suggest that it could be connected to another illness. my cat is 15 and sneezes all the time, every day I think she has a sneezing fit, otherwise she seems fine, however she does have a heart murmer and a thyroid problem which the vet is just monitoring at the moment. whether the sneezing is connected to the heart murmer I do not know, but if I were you I would get your cat checked out by a vet soon just in case the sneezing is connected with something else that may need treatment.

lets hope the vet tells you that it's nothing to worry about or even better dignosis a problem that can be easily fixed, like an allergic reaction to something.

wishing you both well

Kate
