Sudden and unusal behavior

My 8 year old cat suddenly has hidden himself in the crawl space and hisses and growls at us if we come near him. He will still come and get a treat if left but will does not want to be approached. We have left him alone for several hours but his behavior has not changed. This is a new and strange behavior for him and we are concerned. What should we do?

The quick answer is to leave him alone over night and see how he is in the morning. If his behavior is the same then i would suggest you need to catch him somehow and check him over. This behavior may be an indication that he is in pain.

The other possibility is that something has simply scared him so much that he is blaming you for it. In this case all you can really do is give him time to regain his confidence in you.

Lets hope he is Ok and that this is simply a temporary glitch.

best wishes kate
