Urinary Problems in my male cat

by Debra

I have a neutered male cat who has had 2 UTI's and then a blockage. He has been on antibiotics and was hospitalized for the blockage. Things are finally getting better but he is still dribbling a little bit of urine here & there, not in the litter box. I saw a very unsettling thing yesterday & today. After he peed, he tried to lick it back up. Sorry if this is gross or TMI but I am wondering if this indicates an additional problem.

Unfortunately male cats are more prone to this condition. However my female cat used to suffer really bad too and in the end we solved it my feeding her mainly dry food, which caused her to drink more and this cleared up her condition completely.

I must admit i have not heard of cats licking up their own urine and so cannot really comment on that. Are you sure he wasn't just smelling it? Speak to your vets if this continues, they may have come across it before.

i hope he is better soon
best wishes Kate
