Very Fat cat with dandruff and matted hair and she won't use the kitty litter box

I have a cat I rescued I would say 3 years old. She is now 8 yrs. old. She is very fat and has horrible dandruff and her hind quarter hair is all matted, she lets me brush her but the dandruff is really a huge problem. Any ideas of what to do?

Another problem I have with this cat is she won't use the kitty litter box. She goes on to very old blankets i LAY IN THE CORNER OF MY LIVING ROOM. I have given her a new litter box but she just won't use anything except those blankets! Not too kool to have in ones living room......ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Thank you for your response.....Sue Conner

Flaky skin can be caused by several things such as skin mites or fungal infections. It may be an idea to have her looked at my the vet for a proper diagnosis so that a proper treatment can be prescribed. I have a web page about skin problems here https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-hair-loss.html which you may find of interest.

As for the urination. well again this could either be caused by a urinary infection of is a behavioural problem which can be caused by many many things. Too many for me to go through, so again i have written a page about this problem here https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-urine.html.

I hope my pages are able to help your cat in both problem areas as it can't be pleasant for your cat either.

best wishes Kate
