My 2 year old female has starting peeing & pooing next to the litter box. The litter box is spotless and my life revolves around keeping that box clean. It has been in the same place since she was 6 weeks old. The litter is the same and nothing has changed. But today she peed in her cat fountain!!!!!!! She loves this fountain so it makes no sense. It is no where near her litter box so its very strange. Nothing in our home has changed and it I wish I could read her mind. She has a vet visit scheduled but really think it is a mental thing. What can I do??? I don't want my other cat to start peeing in the fountain too or possibly drink her urine.

Ok I think the best thing to do here until you visit the vet and rule out any medical conditions which may be causing the behaviour is to give her a period of confinement with the litter tray. This may sound a little unfair but it is actually not a punishment but a time for the cat to have a chill out period. I.e in a smaller area (one room) with less to worry about etc.

The process is described here on this page

Did you ever find out why she did this?

I believe my cat did the same with her fountain. She started peeing everywhere in the house. Then, all of a sudden or fountain water was yellow.
