Why does my cat heave when I trim his nails?

Answer from KAte
HI I must admit i have not seen this happen before. It may be something peculiar with your cat.

Perhaps someone else may have experienced the same thing and comment here further.

best wishes KAte

Hi,
I actually had a kitten do this. Not having much to work with, I decided to first deal with it as cat "panic attack."
I got treats and would pick up the kitten daily to just finger her paws and then reward her with a treat. I usually like to trim claws once a month so once or twice before the next clipping was due, I'd bring the clipper to her and just touch it to her paws and then reward her with a treat.
The next month, she wasn't happy, but she didn't get sick either. I continued the fingering and treats for another month. She eventually got to where it wasn't an issue.
I've had numerous cats since that one and none have been so frightened at clipping. I've had a few that pur the rafters down (comforting themselves) but most don't mind it at all.
