Why is my new Cat acting odd?

by Sarah

I just got a cat three days ago. Shes 2 and a half. Shes a Maine Coon/Persian-Himalayan. She is really shy and hides everywhere and wont come out. I have never seen a cat this shy before and she just slinks around the house when she walks.Like she has been abused. Shes not eating or drinking or making noise of any kind. And shes very underweight and I am not sure how to get her to eat. Also she has diarrhea and losing hair like you wouldnt believe. What should I do?

First things first. You must take her to see a vet as soon as possible. I dont know where you got your cat from but she should not have thee health problems. It is very important that you take her to a vet to have her checked over and assessed,

The reason she is slinking around is that she is probably very frightened of her new home. She may have been mis treated before (by the sounds of it) and also she is probably feeling very unwell.

I cant say this urgently enough, please take her to see a vet as soon as you can.

Once she s being treated for her health problems you will then have the issue of trying to make her relax and trust you. this may be a problem if in the past she has experienced nasty people etc before.

Please see my page about helping a new cat settle in here

I do hope all works out well for you both.

best wishes kate
