cat hissing

hello we just got a cat he is almost a yr old and we have 3 small children and he is fine to me and my wife but when he sees the walking he starts hissing should i keep him or get rid of him is this normal???

this is a sign of fear cats will often react like this when they are scared of something.

it is not unusual for cats to be afraid of children as they can often be unpredictable and noisy and this can be very worrying for the cat.

No I would not get rid of the cat, he is behaving completely normally. What needs to be done is to spend some time teaching the children how to be around the cat, ie not grab him, run at him, etc. I do have a web page about how to bond with a cat which will help the cat learn not to be afraid of the children. here is the page
