My Cat is always afraid

hi there, i've had my male cat for over a year and he still can't seem to get used to me. everytime i come to touch him or pet him, he moves away. my female cat isnt the same. she is used to me from the first week i got her. at the beginning i thought maybe he was abused before i got him,maybe thats why he is afraid of even me, but a long time has passed and he is still the same. he is always distant aswell, its like he is in his own world. please help me.

well unfortunately as you say you don't know his full history and he may have a deep mistrust of humans because of something which may have happened to him.

My first cat was a rescue and even though she was s loving little things she always shy-ed away when we went to touch her and we had her for 17 years. She would let us stroke her and pick her up but she aways shy-ed away at first.

All i can say is that your cat will eventually learn to trust you more but he may never be a full on friendly cat as some are. perhaps it would be worth trying some bonding exercises with him for a while to try and build up some trust. Please see my page about cat bonding for more on this.
